CORPORATE STREET

I've been keeping this under my hat for a few months now, cuz i had to sign some ish that said i couldnt tell any body.
But you've probly been seeing the bottles and tv spots during the football games, as well as street bills posted.
The document said nothing about blogs or showing to people. So phuck it here it is.
LeRoy Jenkins and Gatorade official co branding and logo redesign by me, Upendo. Gatorade wanted to get back the basics so they reached out to us to give them that feel.
It started with coming up with a list of verbage, the verbage that work for LJ was, GO HARD OR GO HOME,did a few ruff font treatments. But Gatorade felt that that was too too hard core, so they later picked another phrase we liked and ran with that.

From there the "G" was pulled and revamped for the packaging and the marketing colab begains.

Gatorade wanted to do a co branding of tee and a hat. So i did just that, they let me have full creative freedom.
I designed the hat the same way LJ does its classic floral fabrics(limited verious fabric color ways), just replacing the LJ logo with the "G" logo. The LJ Cameo is under the bill tho. Estate L.A. got down with the hat production.

And now on tho the tee. It was just going to be one tee with the BRING IT verbage that used on the bottles.
But they liked my verbage so much they gave the green light for the second. ITS ALL "G" is LJ's short version of saying its all good. None of the product created is for sale, all promo. So if you gets ya hands on some of it, hold on to it! We made history with this package.

Thanks Gatorade for letting me and my brand LJ get down with yall. I drink it, i love it and i was able to pay my rent!

THE NEW MOVEMENT

Its offical! im the art director for Raphael Saadiq. We are teaming up to bring a visual aspect to his music and established brand.
It just makes sence when we build on ideas. So the new direction started with this layout as an outline for his new video single, 100 Yard Dash.

From there it rolled into designing the single art work, that will be used for print and all digital posting of the single.
Plus a nifty 7" vinyl package.
oh yea starting this new position, means starting a new movement. So rounding out the new Saadiq team i brought my photographer Tone with me to shoot the shot for the single art and some ill behind the scene pics at the video shoot( isseue 252 on Tone's website). i also did art direction on the the video too.

PHRASE OF THE DAY

INSPIRATION

For me it can come from many different ways. I take in alot of thing from my surroundings and use them with my designs.
My every day life are tools and influences in all my works. Any thing and every thing is used from, colorways, patterns and the subject it self. Here are a few studies from my street series.

Well here it is folks. The long over due J Dilla time piece, designed by Upendo for LeRoy jenkins. Toy Watch Company got down with the manufacturing, and Rick from Burn Rubber Detroit made the whole connection happen. So its technically a 3 way co lab.
Proceeds from the watch go to MaDukes LLC. And LJ and Burn Rubber is making sure of this!
We got TONE to get us these dope shots. Because of tuff market times we are only gona be able to have a small number produced. So please let us know if yall are felling it. info@leroyjenkinlimited.com

"ICON O RAMA"

During the process of promo tee design with Raphael Saadiq. He mentioned the need for a logo, thu out his 20 years in the game and never having one. Again working with a great client like this , he gives me creative freedom. Souly based on the vibe we created when we were chilling at his studio in LA. The basic direction was to create something classic with some type of abstract aesthetic. Just after a few roughcomps, this is the icon that stood out to Raphael. So i brought it all together with a logo font to tie it all in.
Creating an icon is not an easy task. So there is a serious process to get to the best possible final. Here a few sketch designs plucked from the thumbnail sketch stage.
